WSA Public Forum

A public forum was organised by the Western Suburbs Alliance Inc. (WSA) to air its concerns over State Control or Community Empowerment – Which
do we Want?

The purposes of the Forum:

  • To inform the public about the state government’s take-over of local planning.
  • To discuss the local government and planning implications of the Robson Report.
  • To hear the views of all of the presenters and participants on these matters and what actions need to be taken by WSA and other organizations and groups.

The program included:

Chair: Richard V Diggins OAM JP Freeman of the City of Subiaco and former Mayor.

Colin Latchem (Chairman Western Suburbs Alliance Inc.) The reasons for the WSA and the forum.

Max Hipkins (Mayor of Nedlands)  The recent changes in the state planning laws and the powers of the Planning Minister, the WAPC and the MRA.

Tom Stannage AM, Subiaco resident and Emeritus Professor of Public History.  Seeking Wisdom: Truth, Beauty and the Future of Community Democracy

Ron Norris (Mayor of Town of Mosman Park)  The DAP system and its implications.

Julie Matheson ( Subiaco Councillor) The DAP Experience in Subiaco

Kevin Morgan (Mayor of Cottesloe)  The Robson Report and amalgamation.

John Hammond Llb (Hammond Legal) Implications of loss of control at the local government / community level

The public forum was held at Cottesloe’s War Memorial Hall, 109 Broome Street, Cottesloe  WA  6012 on Thursday 11 October 2012 commencing at 7.30pm and concluding at 9pm.
