The Principality of Academia

The Post, 24 October 2014, p. 1.

The Post, 24 October 2014, p. 1.

Mr Barnett has made 1,850 citizens of Hollywood and Crawley “homeless”, without a Council to attend to their needs.

In the true spirit of representation, Councillor Lynley Hewett has stepped forward to fill the void with a Plan B, after the failure of Mr Barnett’s “Plan A” forced #amalgamations.

Plan B has been drafted as follows:

As the only resident Councillor in this area (and I still have until 2017 to serve) I proudly accept the 1850 possible citizens of the WA Metropolitan area living in Hollywood and Crawley – and ignored by Premier Barnett and Minister Simpson – as my very own People in perpetuity (not that I haven’t always accepted them when the rest of you were ignoring us).

We will secede from WA and form a Principality (possibly called  Academia).

It will be run on the same system as the highly successful duty free Channel Islands and will be a huge magnet for Business.

We will restore God Save the Queen (who possibly will now look like me!) and God (who will possibly not look like me at all).

We will create a Toll Road on Stirling Highway from Hackett Drive to just west of Broadway and from Aberdare to Stirling Highway on Winthrop Avenue and on Broadway and Hackett Drive in both directions.

Based on traffic volumes , we may well have sufficient income from this Toll Road to cease charging the residents of the Principality of Academia any Rates.

Road maintenance will be outsourced to China.

All paperwork will be done by wi-fi through Call Centres in India.

There will be quite cheap access charges for people going to UWA and Matilda Bay.

We will have Endowment Funds from the City of Subiaco’s huge stash  of wealth.

These will be invested according to an Investment Policy designed by my People in the area. They certainly have the brains to do that. We have the University after all.

Then we also have all the medical facilities as well, as the current State Government has thoughtfully placed in our Principality.

We have a huge future.

NB this is only an “In Principle Support Concept Plan number 1” and will be reviewed .

Dr Lynley Hewett

South Ward Councillor

City of Subiaco

He has also made probably a hundred or so people of Mt Lawley homeless in the same way – the LGAB excluded an area south west of Ellesmere Road from the Bayswater proposal and included them in the Vincent/Perth proposal – which of course is now subject to the proposed City of Perth Act.
