This year the draft budget will come to elected members of Subiaco Council on 12 June 2018.
As of 29 May 2018, Subiaco had $67,091,345 in the bank earning around 2% per annum or $1,345,820 for the year.
The proposed budget is to increase rates by 5.12% from $22,554,610 to $23,711,120 paid by ratepayers. The plan is to make a profit of $1,728,907 for 2018/2019.
Do wages paid to staff need to grow by 1.5% this year? and prior years before this one?
What about the money sitting in cash, collected over many years to cover promises made by previous councillors like setting aside money for Asset Renewal?
Not all of the $23,711,120 in rates collected will be spent on projects listed in the budget. Some projects will never happen, yet rates are charged as a back up.
Do you agree that 1.9% of the budget should be spent on road construction? How many more roads need to be constructed in Subiaco? Are existing roads in such a bad condition that they need reconstruction?
Do you care if Subiaco Council spends money on purchasing new property assets outside its boundaries?
Do you care that the proposed rate increase of 5.12% will not go out for community comment like the City of Swan voted to do on 10 May 2018?
If you care about Subiaco Council’s budget, then come to Council Chambers at 241 Rokeby Road, Subiaco on Tuesday 12 June 2018 at 5.30pm and advise the Mayor you wish to make a 3 minute statement.
Send your 3 minute statement in before the meeting to city@subiaco.wa.gov.au
Thank you for caring
